Round Steel Target Base Resurrection
TA Targets began as a company with a simple product lineup and a unique round steel target base. We launched with a family of target systems we dubbed the A-DAP Systems. The most notable visual feature of our systems was the round welded base. No other company had created a base like it, and it was always immediately known when someone saw our targets. The round base had so many positive attributes, but it also had some drawbacks for our supporters.
We Might Have Been Wrong
It’s hard for anyone to admit when they are wrong, equally so, it’s hard to think that we might have made a bad call ending the welded base. We have thousands of customers running the Breakdown Base, and multiple more thousands of people running our Original Welded Base. The folks who want the most portable base possible rave about the Breakdown Base. But the people who came to love and adore the welded base felt…abandoned. I initially believed that the benefits of the Breakdown Target Base would simply explain why we went that route. And in some ways, these benefits were obvious. Here are some notable aspects of the breakdown base and why we launched it to begin with:
- Our original welded base was not serviceable. Low impacts could result in irreparable damage to the base.
- The Breakdown base featured removable and replaceable components
- The Breakdown Base can fit into smaller vehicles
- The BDB can be adapted with our base extension for even more stability.
- The BDB is less expensive to produce, and therefore is a lower price for our customers
It might seem crazy to think, but that last statement is very true. The Breakdown base, although it has more pieces, costs less to produce. Therefore, it was less for YOU to purchase. The Round base requires very specialized equipment to roll and weld the angle. Additionally, we need to weld in pieces and punch holes manually. The good news is: with our latest lineup, capabilities, and knowledge, we were able to resurrect this base without killing your wallet.
Who should be considering the welded base?
The part I always hate is causing confusion in a product lineup. Sometimes it’s unavoidable, sometimes you can keep things simpler. Now that we added ANOTHER base, many people will wonder: “Which is the right one for me?” Let’s Break it Down (pun intended) like this:
- Portability: If portability and smaller size matters most to you, go with the Breakdown Bse
- Cost: If you desire a lower priced base and/or system, the Breakdown base is less expensive
- Serviceability: BOTH bases are serviceable. The Welded base is faster to service, but has less replaceable parts. EVERY part of the Breakdown Base comes apart.
- Strength: The welded base is stronger due to the design. This doesn’t mean the BDB is weak, just that the welded design is stiffer. If you value that, go with the welded base.
- Footprint: The welded base has a slight edge in overall diameter. If you want a larger footprint, go with the welded base.
- Setup time: Once both bases are assembled, they are equally fast to deploy. The welded base ships assembled, so it is faster to get rolling out of the box.
The Breakdown Base was developed for the nomadic citizen who travels to their range. The Welded base was designed for the citizen who trains hard, wants faster setup, and likes to throw their bases around aggressively.
So what changes going forward?
For one, you will see the welded base becoming an option on our A-DAP Target systems alongside the Breakdown Base. We aren’t ending the Breakdown Base, we’re just returning to our roots. Roots that, frankly, we should have never left. We learned that, we listened to you all, and we’re happy to be bringing you a base that you can use, abuse, and train with to become capable of defending life. Here’s one ask of you: Keep communicating with us. Keep pushing us. Keep driving us towards perfection. We need that, and we desire that. This vision and our missions are about YOU! This is about equipping you with tools that enable you to train to your fullest capability. We desire to see our communities armed and trained and capable. We make a product that is an investment into just that: Your Training. TA Targets is committed to that vision and mission. We will never stop.
Thank you all for the years of support.
