Many folks ask us about shotguns. They want to know: can shotguns be used on our targets, and what are the distances.

Both our 3/8” and 1/2” AR550 Mini A-DAP and C Zone systems are built with shotguns in mind.

Here are a few details:
-only use lead shot. No stainless or tungsten shot.
- 10 yards distance minimum with birdshot
-30 yards with buckshot
-50 yards minimum with slugs on 1/2”, 100 yards on 3/8” is recommended. Depending on shotgun used, you MAY be able to shoot slugs at 50 on your 3/8” Mini A-DAP or C Zone. Test fire, check plate, adjust as necessary.

Slugs are extremely potent simply due to the energy and size of projectile in use. It will be important to flip the plate over its lifetime to keep bending to a minimum if you use extensive amounts of slugs. But: they’re built to take it.

One unrealized training benefit from our VTAR systems is the ability to visually see how your round impacted the target. The higher the impact, the further the rebound (with the spring kit installed). ⁠⁠

Even if your target is heavily used and hasn’t been spray painted recently, you can tell where your round hit almost immediately. If used correctly, this can result in quickly adjusting in order to hit at a better spot. ⁠⁠
