The Mini Vital Zone is purpose built for accountability and skill development.

The Mini Vital Zone target is modeled after our Mini A-DAP, a Reduced C Zone AR550 steel target system. The main difference between this steel target and our other reduced C zone Mini A-DAP is the addition of a reactive paddle. The reactive paddle is a 33% reduced A Zone which forces shooters to train to a higher standard. Small steel target force higher accountability and ultimately further assist in more refined shooting skills. The next generation breakdown base coupled with the Gen 5 A-DAP Top Bracket makes our systems even more refined and adaptable.

Each and every target plate is manufactured from our hand selected AR550 that meets our minimum hardness requirements. We track each and every plate and place a serial number and lot number behind the CNC formed angles behind the target plate.

Description

What makes the Mini Vital Zone Steel Target so effective?

The Mini Vital Zone was designed to push the limits of standards for pistol and rifle shooters. We designed this largely to assist in building better pistol fundamentals. The outer target plate starts off as our Mini A-DAP plate but then we added a 30% reduced A Zone in the center. Behind this plate is a HD CNC cut paddle that we form in our press brake that holds a reactive paddle. Shooters can work various fundamental drills while attempting to land shots on the reduced A Zone paddle.

What is the purpose behind the Mini Vital Zone?

This challenging target will help shooters train efficiently and with purpose. This Steel Target features an aggressive forward lean for durability and fragmentation mitigation. Both the outer plate and paddle can also move when struck which further extends the life expectancy of the system.Ā  To balance off the cost of the complete system, we chose to use 3/8″ AR550 steel for both the paddle and the main target plate and 1/4″ Mild steel for the bent paddle mounting bracket. Keeping the price lower means that more people can get out and train well. Just understand: This system is meant for heavy duty use, no corners were cut. Buy once, Cry Never.

FAQ:

Can I purchase this target system in 1/2″ AR550?
  • Answer: No. Because this system is primarily designed for fundamental pistol training, we offer it only in 3/8″ AR550 at this time. Rest assured, this system is built to last and will perform to the standards you have come to know us for.
This system is designed for pistol training, can I shoot rifles at this system?
  • Answer: Yes. However, we recommend ONLY light carbines for this system. Light carbines are: .223/5.56 NATO, 300 BLK, 7.62×39, 5.45×39. Light carbines MAY be used with proper ammo as close as 50 yards. Note: We do not recommend using 308 on this system unless you are 150 yards and beyond. The paddle is extremely small to practice pistol fundamentals and for that reason, close range 308 impacts will be extremely violent. It is SAFE to use 308, however accelerated paddle wear and tear MAY be noticed. Although, the good thing is: Paddles are very inexpensive to replace. For this reason, if you are going to shoot larger calibers, we highly recommend adding a paddle or two to your order.
Does this system work with my current hostage assembly?
Does this system feature adjustable lean?
  • Answer: No. This system is a fixed forward lean target so it does not have multiple holes to adjust forward lean. Therefore it is set at approximately 25 degrees of forward lean. The paddle is slightly less forward lean because of limited space behind the target plate. This is due to the fact that we had to keep the paddle bracket small which means less room for adjustability.
Since there is no lean adjustment, is it safe?
  • Answer: Of course! This is a safe target system, just like our other systems. With that being said, however, you MUST use proper ammunition and follow our distance guidelines. Always remember to wear eye and ear protection as well. ALWAYS!
Is this system covered under your warranty?
  • Answer: Yes! Any of our 3/8″ AR550 systems have a 1 year strike plate warranty. If something cracks or breaks prematurely, we’ll replace it so long as it was used properly. We take immense pride in how we treat and stand by our customers. This system is absolutely no different. You are purchasing the highest quality systems from us, therefore, they will perform as such.
Is this a pre-order?
    • Answer: No. Because, we have plenty of stock on hand, we are prepared to produce as many units as are needed. However, during product drops there CAN be some delays. Most orders will ship in 1-2 days but please understand there may be up to 10 days to process orders for this new system. So this totally depends on order volume.
I already have a base and A-DAP top bracket or armored post, can I buy the Mini VZ target and paddle separately?
Where are these products produced?
  • Answer: We produce our products in Lancaster County PA. We also oversee every step of the process, QC, production, packaging, and shipping. From start to finish, TA Targets is manufacturing high quality systems for hard use. We have invested heavily in newer specialty equipment to further streamline our processes and increase quality even further.
Is the Armor Plating on the targets US material?
  • Answer: No. The “armor” we use for the strike plates (actual target impact plates) is made from a proprietary material that is manufactured for us in Sweden. this is the best material we have found in the world. We were largely dissatisfied with the QC of American made strike plates and had too many issues with quality control. Eventually we hope a US manufacturer creates a material that is as available and as stringent as our Swedish plate. But for now, this is the best material to service our customers. US Manufactured AR500 and AR550 is used in areas that are NOT main strike plates. Some examples of this are the Rifle Dueling Tree Shields, Plate Rack Shields, Arachnid front shield and hostage brackets.
Where does the rest of the steel come from?
  • Answer: Traditionally all other steel used in our systems is US origin. During the “covid pandemic” the supply chain has experienced extreme pressures. And so, under some circumstances some of our tube steel and angle had to be purchased from Canadian raw materials. We do our absolute best to minimize this, not because of quality concerns, but because we deeply desire to produce our products from US steel. However, we will not use Chinese steel plate, angles, or tubes. Rest assured.
How close can I shoot the target?
  • This system features a FIXED lean angle and is rated for pistols at 10 yards, .223 at 50 yards. For this reason, we recommend our full size Vital Zone Target System for Calibers like 308 Winchester. *NOTE: Distances are determined with lead core, copper jacketed ammo at 3,000 FPS muzzle or LESS. Faster ammunition may require further distances.
Does this product fall under Prop. 65 warnings?
  • Maybe. Just in case, be sure not to eat the paint or lick the target before or after you’ve shot it. If you are just curious, led tastes horrible and will probably cause mental damage. If you have done it once you are likely to do it again. So, handle at your own risk, if you choose, you may wear an industry grade hazmat suit and gas mask with a HEPA filter and good luck charm on your wrist.
