We rarely EVER have warranty claims on the 1/2”

We rarely EVER have warranty claims on the 1/2” AR550 Mini ADAP... so when we received one with the customer stating there was a hole in it, we were intrigued. After some discussing, we learned to find the customer was shooting this plate with 300 Win mag at 500 yds. on BLM land.

That being said, the only possible scenario to cause this would have to be somebody shooting from a neighboring mountain with a .50 BMG Raufoss round (the only round we have found to penetrate like this). Regardless, we ended up replacing this customers plate for free.

Forward Lean Angle: There is a debate and misunder

Forward Lean Angle: There is a debate and misunderstanding about this physical characteristic of steel targets that we see often. We are FIRM believers that targets should exhibit SOME amount of forward lean. ⁠
⁠
When a bullet strikes a flat plane (no lean angle), that fragmentation follows the surface in a 360 degree "fan". The maximum deflection, when using quality steel, will usually be about 15 degrees in all directions for a flat plate. It's for this reason that standing at proper distances mitigates risk of fragmentation, even with systems with less lean angle. This doesn't mean lean angle is unimportant, and we will explain. Where MOST people find fragmentation coming back to shooters is from: ⁠
⁠
- Brackets that wrap around the side of the target⁠
- Dimpled targets (Either misused steel or poor quality steel)⁠
- Targets standing directly beside another system⁠
- Concrete, rock, or hard ground surfaces⁠
- Flat ledges in the vicinity of where the fragmentation goes immediately after hitting plate (angles, brackets, or other bad designs). ⁠

Forward lean can be achieved by brackets with proper design AND/OR movement when struck. Both achieve the end goal of dissipating / transferring the kinetic energy of the bullet into some other form of energy i.e. movement. The goal here is to take that mass of energy (the bullet), break it up into smaller masses (the fragments), then through the plate moving and the forward lean, sending it harmlessly down to the ground (Transferring the energy). More lean + more movement = better energy transfer and fragmentation redirection. ⁠
⁠
But: Having forward lean WITHOUT proper steel is JUST as dangerous as running poor quality steel flat. Eventually, your targets will shoot back at you. ⁠
⁠
Shown in this photo are two C Zone 1/2" AR550 A-DAP systems. One is set to a nearly flat setting, one is set to almost 45 degrees. The beauty of the A-DAP system is you can choose your forward lean angle based upon your needs. They safely direct fragmentation to the ground, even when used close range with rifle calibers. ⁠
