Training live fire is important, but in these days it is very expensive. For some folks, it’s not possible right now. The good news is dry fire is essentially “free”, and you can do it at home daily. Dry firing is one of the most valuable training regimes you can embark on. If you aren’t dry firing regularly, you’re missing a key component.

Cardboard and targets aren’t pitted against each other.

Fact is, they can work in tandem together. The key is knowing what and when to train with either.

We have customers in such windy environments, cardboard is virtually impossible. They use almost entirely steel. Other customers will focus on paper at closer distances for tracking hits precisely, and steel at further distances. Others will mix them into drills where the paper showcases performance of a specific moment of shooting, and steel is further out for immediate feedback.

Each person is different.

But this remains: steel targets, when used properly, offer immense training value through immediate visual and audible cues.

Cardboard provides PRECISE impact tracking and allows better tracking of “missed” shots.

We believe in both options.

Not every range needs a plate rack. Many ranges have plate racks. If you show up and there’s a plate rack down range, get creative. Incorporate other targets/distances. Incorporate some movement. Work transitions. There are many ways to integrate a rack.
